Black and white portraits have such a timeless, romantic feel. That's why I'm such a huge fan! I always include several black and white images in my clients' portrait galleries, and they tend to be among their favorites. In fact, one client requested black and white versions of ALL her portraits, and I was happy to oblige!
Sometimes I'll create a particular shot with the intention of processing it as a black and white image, and sometimes I'll experiment while editing, and find that a portrait is more impactful when converted to monochrome. Removing color can make an image stronger and more dramatic, with more emphasis on the subject rather than the colors or other elements in the shot.
